Our Commitment to Privacy
ProxyForge is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your media and workflow data belong to you, and you alone. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding data collection, processing, and storage.
The short version: ProxyForge operates entirely on your local device. We don't collect, transmit, or have access to your files, projects, or personal information.
Information We Collect
ProxyForge is designed to operate completely offline and does not collect personal information or usage data from users.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- Video files or media content
- Personal information (name, email, etc.)
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Processing history or file metadata
- IP addresses or device identifiers
- Location data
- Payment information (handled securely by Apple)
Local Data Storage
ProxyForge stores certain data locally on your Mac to provide functionality:
Application Preferences
- Codec and quality presets you've configured
- Default output paths and folder locations
- Custom encoding parameters
- Application settings and UI preferences
- Recently used file paths (for convenience only)
Location: Preferences are stored in your Mac's standard application support directory using macOS UserDefaults. This data never leaves your device.
Queue and Processing State
- Current processing queue (cleared on quit)
- Temporary processing data (automatically cleaned)
Data Processing
All video processing occurs 100% locally on your Mac:
- No Cloud Processing: Your video files are never uploaded to external servers
- No Network Transmission: Media files and processing data stay on your device
- No Remote Access: We cannot and do not access your files
- Offline Operation: ProxyForge works completely offline - no internet connection required
FFmpeg Processing
ProxyForge uses FFmpeg, an industry-standard open-source video processing framework. FFmpeg operates entirely locally and does not transmit any data over the network.
File Permissions
ProxyForge requires the following macOS permissions to function:
File System Access
- Read Access: To access source video files you choose to process
- Write Access: To save generated proxy files to your chosen output location
ProxyForge only accesses files and folders you explicitly select. We adhere to macOS sandboxing and security policies to protect your data.
macOS Security & Privacy
On first launch, macOS may request permission for ProxyForge to access certain folders (Documents, Desktop, etc.). These permissions are managed by macOS and can be revoked at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
Third-Party Services
ProxyForge does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, advertising networks, or tracking tools. The application operates completely independently without external dependencies beyond macOS system frameworks.
App Store
ProxyForge is distributed through the Mac App Store. Apple may collect analytics about app downloads and updates, which is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not ours. We do not receive personally identifiable information from these analytics.
Updates and Telemetry
ProxyForge does not include:
- Crash reporting or error telemetry
- Usage analytics or feature tracking
- Automatic update checks (handled by the App Store)
- Phone-home mechanisms
App updates are distributed exclusively through the Mac App Store and managed by macOS.
Children's Privacy
ProxyForge is a professional video editing tool and does not target children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 13. The application does not include features specifically designed for or marketed to children.
Data Retention
Since ProxyForge operates entirely locally:
- We retain no data - All data resides on your Mac
- You control retention - Delete the app to remove all local preferences
- No cloud backup - Settings don't sync across devices (unless you use Time Machine or iCloud Drive for manual backup)
Security
We take security seriously:
- Code Signing: ProxyForge is code-signed and notarized by Apple for security verification
- Sandboxing: The application runs within macOS sandbox restrictions
- No Network Code: ProxyForge contains no networking code (except for standard App Store licensing)
- Open Standards: We use FFmpeg, an audited open-source project trusted by the industry
Your Rights
Since ProxyForge does not collect personal information or transmit data to external servers:
- Right to Access: All data is stored locally on your device and accessible to you
- Right to Deletion: Uninstall ProxyForge to remove all application data
- Right to Portability: Your preferences are stored in standard macOS formats
- No Data Requests Needed: We don't have your data to request, access, or delete
International Users
ProxyForge processes all data locally on your device, regardless of your location. There is no cross-border data transfer because there is no data transmission at all.
GDPR Compliance
For users in the European Union, ProxyForge's privacy-first architecture inherently complies with GDPR principles as no personal data is collected or processed by us.
CCPA Compliance
For California residents, ProxyForge does not sell personal information because we don't collect it in the first place.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
Since ProxyForge doesn't collect data, future updates are unlikely to affect your privacy in any meaningful way. We'll notify users of significant policy changes through App Store update notes.
